question: psp amp mod
« on: June 07, 2008, 06:59:01 PM »
Okay today i bought this ihome2go thingy i opened it up an it has a pretty small amp in it and a pair of speakers so i was thinking maybe i can make this internal like mooto did
then i started to google amps and stuff like that and i can across this
http://tangentsoft.net/audio/cmoy-tutorial/assy.html and i thought this is super small and would fit in the umd drive area and with the supplies and skill i think i we all could build it

but i don't know will it work?

and can u guys help me find a small amp like this or build one

**UPDATE**
i found a LM386 chip amp http://www.instructables.com/id/SBSCBOTFFRCPA69/

-THANKS-

This pocket amp won't work for you. It requires plus and MINUS 9 volts to power it.

Also to many components unless you make them all surface mount you will never fit it in with the speakers.

I will upload a schematic for you in the next post let me get it.

Ok, I had to digitize the schematic here goes:

We use a tda7053 stereo amp. This is the schematic

The amp will run from 4.5s volt up to 18 volts, you want to hook it to the 5 volt source.
The 100 nf cap can be deleted you don't need it (1)

The dc volume control uses this schematic

the source for all your part needs

http://www.digikey.com

this is the part listing for the tda7053 amp

You will notice there are only 6 parts and the amp is a 16 pin chip. If you do not want to deal with the surface mount
chip you can buy a dip ( normal leaded part ). If you look to the right of the column you will see the part is only $1.45 in 1 piece quantities.

This is a real kick ass amp. Lots of base and with a few more components we can add base boost to the circuit. It has overload protection and will not blow out if you have a bad speaker connection.

Ok,

Will translate that schematic for you.

I will draw it up and then repost it here cause I think more people are interested.

Ok here we go here is the schematic

Parts list for stereo Amp

QTY       Name                        Source
---------------------------------------------------------
1   TDA7053A Stereo Amp      www.digikey.com
2   470 nano farad caps        Radio Shack
2   5 K Ohm resistors          Radio Shack
1   220 Micro Farad 6 Volt Cap    Radio Shack
1   1 Mega Ohm trimmer       Radio Shack
1   1 Micro Farad 12 Volt Cap    Radio Shack

The Chip is a 16 pin ic you only have to hook up the pins that I have in the
schematic. Do not hook up the others.

The part that says 1M is a trimmer so you can adjust it to set the max volume
so depending on the speakers you choose you don't damage them.

Including the chip a total of 8 parts that will fit in the UMD drive
bay along with the speakers

Left and Right inputs hook to the positive side of the origional speakers
( The red wire on the speaker plugs )

You will set the max volume to get the highest you want. Then you use the
PSP volume control to turn the volume up and down.

Any other questions and I will be glad to help. I have built this circuit and it
works very well.

You know, I thought I was pretty smart..

Until I just looked at the above diagram.  Theres some symbols on there I've never seen before, I wouldn't know where to begin :P

On the other hand, woot, hope it works out for you!

Ok,

I will do a series of still pictures and video.

That way everyone can follow along.

very easy very cheap.

But I spent four years in engineering school to so I take to many things for granted.

SORRY

hey guys, quick noob question how does it work on only positive 4.9v, doesnt it need plus and minus 4.9v to complete the circuit?

It creates the minus inside the chip.

By taking the positive voltage inverting it and running it through a charge pump you can convert +5 volts to - 5volts.

They do that all inside the chip to generate the power they need.
