Rapid fire w/ 555 timer.. NOT X-S rf tut
« on: July 29, 2008, 03:25:24 PM »
I found this rapid fire mod quite awhile back using a low current 555 timer. These pics aren't mine, and I can't find who originally posted them, so I can't give proper credit. I've made quite a few of these and they work well.

555 timer - low current
22k resistor
1k resistor
0.1 uF cap

No no... those aren't my pics, I don't want credit where credit isn't due. I posted them because I though they'd make a good reference for anyone who wanted to try making one. Here's a pic of mine:

As for a vid... I'm working on that. I make and sell xims (xbox input machine) and I want to make a vid of it's use. I just need to get a new camcorder.

looks awesome, much easier than XS tut as here there are less components
thanks

think you might still can keep the rumble motors theres lots of places to put that in because it doesent look as big as llamas.

That pic is of one of the first ones I did. The larger rumble motor sits on that side and the weight JUST clears the mod. For mods after that, I moved it over to the other side where the small rumble motor is.

Iwas wondering if you could hook two buttons to this mod? just input both buttons to pin3? Wil this work on old and new?

Follow the white wires. It's hard to see it in the shadow, but the switch is glued there. I don't use those big Radio Shack switches. I get all my parts from Mouser and I use small tactile switches.

The xim allows you to use a mouse and keyboard on a 360 or PS3 and allows you to fully map you keyboard. Yes, the XFPS will allow you to on the 360, but those things are crap used alone.

WTF?

If you want, here all of the RadioShack part numbers for the DUAL rapid fire using the CMOS555 timer.

R1 - 10k Ohm - 271-1335
R2 - 100k Ohm - 271-1347
R3 - 1k8(1.8k) Ohm - ***
R4 - 100 Ohm - 271-1311
R5 - 220 Ohm - 271-1313
D1 - 1N914 - 276-1122
P1(variable resistor) - 100k Ohm - 271-284
C1 - 1uF(Tantalum) - 272-1434
C2 - .1uF( - 272-1053
PB1 - Momentary(N.O.) - 275-1547
T1 - NPN - 276-1617
T2 - PNP - 276-1604

***Radioshack doesn't have these but you can wire a 1k ohm,330 ohm, and 470 ohm resistors together instead.

(I'm not trying to hijack the thread, I'm just trying to help out. If you want this removed just ask lol)

I have read this over and over, but I have one simple question. Is it faster than the two wire/tact switch method or the same, and the same question for the spitfire controllers. what is the comparison?

its up to you, best thing about a 555 is the variable part, i forget which one it is but if you replace one of the resistors with a variable resistor you can control speed, get it so fast that as soon as you press the button your clip is gone, or slower then normal fire.

Adam, it goes from 3.5 to 6.8 per second, it had a pot on there already. It's labeled P1

where would you put the pot on the first schematic in order to change the speed?

This is the SAME exact thing as the one in the other thread below this that we just proved not working. Don't bother wasting your time. I'll talk to Mike later about the 555 timer, he told me he'd try to work on it for me. Don't know if he got to it yet though.

I just did this one today.  IT WORKS.  I'm sure the other one works too, but I think I must've done something wrong.

I don't have breadboard to test it with...and it looks too confusing just going by the pics to be able to just wire it. Thanks for letting us know it works though!

I got this one working, but does anyone know where to put the pot on this one?  That one guy says you can do it, and I'd like to turn up the speed cuz right now the speed of the needler and plasma rifle and all that stuff is the same.  Just better accuracy.
