they are essentially universal leopard backup CDs

the processor does not matter, leopard is leopard

it can be either one, based on what you choose i believe... im not 100% that the backups that come with some macs can be used for other's upgrades, but i do know they are fresh installs

you can check by trying to update, and seeing if it has the option to keep all your data

I will swap the hard drive in my laptop to my old 60gb one before trying to upgrade.  We haven't got the laptop yet but we should be soon by december at the latest.  We are still deciding if she wants a macbook or different laptop.  I'm urging them to get a mac as mine is still going strong for like 3 years and not a single problem.

Its Locked To Model type, because of drivers.

So MB Discs will work in any MB, And so on, the Backup Disc has a stripped version of OS X, with only the drivers for that Model, so previous models may not work since hardware has changed.

not from my experiances... a freind wanted leopard for me, so we traded OS's using the backup disks and he installed from imac disks, leopard on his macbook... havent heard of issues, but i may be wrong and his drivers could be off (duno)

more reaserch indepth could supplement, but so far i havent seen or heard issues from him
