Internal SD MOD on Slim PSP [FINISHED]
« on: October 16, 2008, 03:32:28 PM »

Future mod will be completely concealed and will look like this:

Speed test with BLACKSPEED.
White PSP is the one with the SD MOD.

I took out the SD slot out of my old MP3 player.
Anyone that wants to do this mod can also get a broken MP3 player on eBay there like $5.

This SD slot works just like the MS slot when you push it in it stays when you push it again it spits the SD card out. :D

So what do you guys think?

Same as the one for the psp phat mod except wired to the port and card instead of sockets...

Actually my MOD will be diferent.
I don't think it's been done before the way I wanna do it.

I might wire to the sockets (PINS)
And I'm doing this mod so taht I can use both MS PRO DUO and SD cards at any time.

1 at a time.
Will probably put in a switch to do that.

Not sure yet will see how it turns out.

Nice! Already looking good. Can't wait to see the end product. And being able to use ms pro duo/sd whenever you want will be wicked!

Yeah I'm gonna try and make it so that it spits out the CARD like the PRO DUO slot does. :D

There is no way to wire the SD reader derectly to the MS Pro Dou slot without a Micro SD to MS PRO DUO adapter right?

Is there?

I can put the side cover on later no problem.

But to make it so that I can use both MS's and SD cards I will need to find a flex cable or some really thin wires because the ones I got now are thick.
So whenever I get that I can change it and add a switch.

I see..
Can't you fix it?

hey are u gonna make a tut PLEASE
The way I made it now all you need is this tutorial:
[POC] SD Card as Memory for PSP:
https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=14584.0

And these 2 images that show you what parts of plastic you will needd to remove:
But depending on the SD slot you use you might not need to or you might need to cut less out.

As for the FUTURE MOD that will have both use of MS and SD slots that tutorial I will post ones I do it.  :drunk:

It's nice, but using photofast products are so much more effective in my opinion. The 5200 is a good clean product. Or use the 3100 like I did to tie 2 SD cards together to get 32gigs of storage like me.

agreed, this is a great mod if you can't get or afford a photofast adapter. alot cheaper to get the parts, but i'm not sure if it's any easier. still this is a brilliant mod Electro, great work!!!  :tup:

No it's not easier.

The photofast adapter is already made and all you need to do is open your PSP and remove the UMD drive and that's quite easy and it's level is like 1 out of 10 on the hard scale.

As for the SD mod I did the level is about 5 out of 10 on the hard scale.

The hardest thing about doing this mod was soldering to the Micro SD to MS PRO DUO adapter and cutting out the necessary plastic to make room.
The rest was quite easy.

How do u plan on making it so that u can use both MS and SD
i have thought of this before and the only way i found possible was to use the parallel mem mod which is like a 11/10 on hard scale and the SD mod attached to that
also if u used the Photofast MS to Micro SDx2 thing u could use 2 16gb SD cards and still have ur MS working with the parallel mem mod
but that is just an idea
EDIT
ooo ya we don't have the pinouts for the parallel mem mod so that would make it that much more difficult

I'm taking a break on this MOD.
I don't have the parts I need to make it better.

And I already have a plan on how I can use both MS PRO DUO and SD cards 1 at a time. :)

Sure I can draw up a diegram for you if you are willing to try it 1st.
But since I didn't do the final MOD myself I'm not going to post it to general public yet.
I can PM it to you and you can give it a try. :)

i did that already too =] long time now

Even though your MOD is good it's nothing like mine.
If you didn't understand the intire purpose of my mod it is made so that it will be fully internal and still have the abilety for use of SD and MS cards at any time.

WIth your MOD the SD card is always internal.

Why didn't you ever post this mod?

I'm curius how did you wire your SD card so that it will work and when MS PRO DUO is inserted it switches to that?

I already figured out how I'm going to do it.
With my method PSP will work even if no Card is inserted.

If MS is inserted PSP will read MS.
If SD card is insearted PSP will read SD card. :D

i did post it haha soon as i finished that psp i posted it. i didn't know you wanted to remove your sd. i have no reason to have to remove mines because its 16gb. all i did was just wire everything up parallel. once a mspd is in it will read that before the sd so the sd gets canceled out for some reason. once i take it out then it goes back to sd. i only use mspd for pandora anyway. but yeaa gl with yours =]

I now this is an old thread and it is bad to bump it but i must

I need to know how u did it to make it for both to work with just a switch cuz i have the coolest idea that will save everyone money and space in there slim (probably)

okay here i go
wat if we take one of these:http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16489
and like the original sd mod take it apart and turn the micro sd slots into SD slots  :cool:
sound better than this http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.17296 and cheaper

Now if u can plz let me know i would really apreciate it i want to buy the supplys for this but i don't if i can't do it right

I would do the Cr-3100 simply because it can hold 64gb instead of 32gb like the CR-5400

Your trying to do this?:
Idea for use of SD cards on PhotoFast CR-5400 Dual Socket Micro SD!

I was going to wire my readers like this:

See the 2 contacts in the BLUE box?

That is where you wire the power to PSP's motherboard and the card reader.

Don't bump old topics but since u already did might as well help u

look at this link
http://pinouts.ru/Memory/sdcard_pinout.shtml
and this one
http://www.interfacebus.com/MicroSD_Card_Pinout.html

now wat u want to do is find out wat pin is #1 on ur ms to micro SD converter
once u know that connect the pins according

MicroSD-->SDHC
1-->9
2-->1
3-->2
4-->4
5-->5
6-->3+6
7-->7
8-->8

hope that helps

because you can't just hook up a sd slot to a ms pro duo slot without an adaptor.

exactly
wat i recommend u do is buy a cr-5400 of ebay or dx
wat the cr-5400 does is take the MS signals and turns them into MicroSD which u can turn into SDHC by wiring it up differently

Don't bump old topics but since u already did might as well help u

look at this link
http://pinouts.ru/Memory/sdcard_pinout.shtml
and this one
http://www.interfacebus.com/MicroSD_Card_Pinout.html

now wat u want to do is find out wat pin is #1 on ur ms to micro SD converter
once u know that connect the pins according

MicroSD-->SDHC
1-->9
2-->1
3-->2
4-->4
5-->5
6-->3+6
7-->7
8-->8

hope that helps

after you wire it up to microSD to MS adapter first.

So in other words there's just has to be a microSD to MS conversion chip so you can use the big SD cards.  I would just personally get a CR-3100 and be done with it, but that's just me.

Here's a diagram on how it would be, the pinouts of course are not correct (for illustration purpose).  U can see the MS to SD adapter is acting like a middle man or a bridge.

So if you wanted to remove your OEM MS slot and fit a SD slot:

1> Unsolder the MS slot
2> Solder wires from your mobo's MS pins to the MS to microsd adapter
3> Solder wires from the microsd adapter to your SD slot
4> Lay down your SD slot and secure it in place.
5> Cut case to fit new SD card slot
6> Shove a big SD card in there and pray it works

the prob wit the cr-3100 is u can't take the sd slot and place it in the original slots place and it removes alot of space in ur umd drive that u could use for a million different mods

on my current psp i am removing the ms slot and placing in a spring loaded sdhc slot (trust me this will make ur life so much easier) and because i am doing this i have space to place a speaker in my umd area a jewel some surprises and possibly (if i get money soon) a go cam

so in my opinion go wit the cr-5400 and if u want 2 sdhc slots just wire up the other microSD slot to a sd slot and place it in the umd area

I've been doing a bit of research on this mod for my phat.  On the phat its easier since you can get an extra WIFI/MS board and work on that.

Yeah just using Autocad for the drawings.

But now that I'm thinking about it, I dunno if its a good idea to do this mod since you will probably cap out at 16GB using the single SD card?  Cuz I don't think you can use a 32GB card with this setup.

I guess if you want more storage u can probably  get a PhotoFast CR-5400, crack it open and wire up 2 SDHC sockets and try and fit them inside.

I thought the photofast Cr-5400 had a 32gb limit on it, like 16+16=32 kind of limit
