Far Cry 2
« on: October 24, 2008, 08:24:04 AM »
got it off steam, so far its pretty neat, looks good (not as good as crysis..perhaps i'm graphically spoiled?) and plays good

so far im 2% into it..

the only thing to complain is all the between time travel, and when you're traveling, literally every 4 minutes a raid car attacks you, so you have to get out, kill them, and then fix your car...about 5 times before you get to the next town.. thats my only complaint so far...and that the only weapons they have are rusty ak's that jam...and you have malaria...

I thought it was utter garbage, sold it to a floor mate down the hall and he already asked me if I wanted to buy it back

Here’s a warning: you may well hate Far Cry 2 when you first start. It’ll seem bewildering, it’ll seem broken. You're given little direction on how the world works or how you'll work within it. But this is a game – again, like GTA – where that bewilderment is part of the package. Far Cry 2 isn't about clearing levels or amassing body counts. It’s about the sum of the experience, the feeling you get surveying the total package. You won’t love this game when emptying a clip into a bad guy. You’ll love it when you hear a rustling in the bushes, draw your gun, spin around and find it’s just a water buffalo. Or when you realise that this game is nothing but those brief, best bits of the original Far Cry — the open-world combat, the ability to attack a base however you want.

And that total package is one of the most ambitious games in recent memory. Sure, you’ll curse at the omnipotent AI and the rusty guns and the malaria sickness, but they only serve to remind you that the game’s not perfect. Which is lucky, because when you drive up a hill, sunlight oozing through your windscreen as you pass a flock of gazelle and survey a rebel camp you’re about to destroy in whatever way you feel like, perfect is a word you come dangerously close to using.

right off kotaku

play past 2% and then judge the game, plz

I actually played it for a few hours, got a few missions in and thought it felt broken.  Now Fallout 3 on the other hand RULES SO HARD

again, play past 2%...i was playing for 5 hours and was only 2% into it

the whole kotaku review wraps it up quite nicely

honestly my only gripe is the end where i have to mercilessly slaughter my nakama, despite 7/8 of them dying previously (infact, when hakim died, i tried saving him because i was finishing an op with him, but he died in my arms, so i gave him a viking funeral -water, i.e. burned the whole area including his body..)

If I have to play more than a few hours for a game to "start" getting good then I'll pass on it all together.  Besides I sold it and bought Fallout 3, which I can say was worth double its value.

then you pass on many good games, as that happens a lot

one phenomenal game that wasn't good until about a half hour or so into operation snake eater (after about 2.5 in virtuous mission) was metal gear solid 3

that game also made the top ten list of games that made people cry

now stop rebutting everything i say
this topic is about a good game, far cry 2
its not titled ' please insult a game i like and tell me a better one and constantly battle everything i say because i'm obviously so much stupider than you'

Lmao, snake eater was only 10 hours long in the first place

And in the second place, a direct quote from the Kotaku review

Quote
Far Cry 2 is long. Too long. There are too many missions, the story takes too long to really get going, and Ubisoft risk losing a lot of players from boredom before the game's surprisingly involving finale.

So it wasn't just me, If I want to play an RPG where I know I'll be grinding out to finish the game over the course of 100 hours, it's not going to be a western one.

Maybe it's just be expecting something more.  The original Far Cry was an amazing game right off the start, and had some of the best graphics/gameplay of any game in it's time.  I was expecting this game to be just as good as it's predecessor, but there were too many things slowing it down (having to take malaria pills in the middle of a gun fight and the ridiculous amount of time it takes to get from point A to point B)

i greatly disagree that they think its too long

i dont think its long enough

i beat it within a week, all missions, all storyline, and wanted more, which is why im replaying

snake eater was roughly 25 hours, i played it thoroughly and completely, didnt skimp on any secrets of unlockables

malaria is supposed to be a :censored:, that was the idea, drag you down, you arent invincible, and the rediculous time gives for some good battles and beatuful landscape, and the possiblity of gaining new missions
