There isn't really a way to boost your internet speed.

if you live in the uk you can get something called an iplate which has the potential to increase your speed by up to 2mb/s. i.e. if you are paying for a 8mb/s connection but you only get 3mb/s then there is the potential to increase that up to 5mb/s but its dependent on the wiring in your area and your house

not all areas can get bethere or virgin phen - believe me if i had the option to goto virgins 50mb/s internet i would definitely do it but unfortunately the only option we have is using the stock bt lines so im currently on a nildram business package and i just fit an iplate - my speed has gone up by about 0.5mb/s to 1mb/s so im now getting on average between 4.5mb/s and 5 mb/s

We're on Nildram too. Nildram FTL!

Our internet is the suckiest. My ping on assualt cube is always above 300  . And even then I'm lucky to get less than 400. Gah.

How much does an iPlate cost?

Get a Gigbit Ethernet card ? Ummmm stop all other things like instant messaging programs while downloading....there's not really much you can do. Oh and DON"T FALL for those stupid programs saying we can boost your internet...they don't...they boost up the death of your computer with viruses..

Max_Kreeger, no. Getting a Gigabit LAN card won't do anything if the speed isn't there in the first place .

You should just invest in upgrading your internet package with your ISP, or switch to a faster ISP.
You can actually increase your speed with some hacks/programs but it'sl illegal and I'm not explaining further.

An iplate costs about £10 also I think bt offer a service to come and service all you Internet and house phone wiring as that can make a difference as well but it costs like £60

Also try to get a less known ISP, it will be a gamble with reliableness, but it will be a lot faster, since everybody in your area shares the same connection if you on the same ISP, therefore much slower, when I started using bethere, nobody knew about it, it was really new, and it get my full 24mbp/s, it was amazing, but over the years it got more popular and now i get 15mbp/s

Not to mention the fact they go down a lot now, although thats because of my area

the government wont get rid of this useless tree, no leaves, or anything, its ugly, and its starting to grow into the phone lines and what now, so sometimes all i hear is a crackling noise and its gotten so bad, that my broadband has turned into dialup, whenever you pick up the phone the internet goes down

and legally, we cant do anything, since the tree is on the other side of the road, and owned by the council

Kinda. It's still kinda slow, though. I've had mine in the 10,000kbs before.

We've had it replaced by bethere about 5 times, it still did it with brand new ones, and it only does it when its windy when the tree seems to rape the telephone posts

The tree is litterly grown about a foot away from the telephone post, and to make it worst, you know when trees grow at an angle, its doing that and its starting to grow around the top of the post so its damaging the wires

Really pisses me off how the council doesnt care, they said we cant do that, my dad tried to complain because he does all his work at home and he cant work when its down, they said we cant touch it because of how it helps being green? It has no leaves... its a tree that looks dead, it never has leaves, just lots of twigs/braches etc

Right now my internet is about 10mb/s, no where near the 24mb/s i used to get

Im probaly going to move in a few months though

..o_O I'm willing to bet Star Downloader just opened up some ports and is one of those downloaders thast claims to work fast but really doesn't. A simple downloader program doesn't "increase" any speeds. It just allocates more internet bandwidth to that program, per say. I know that's not right but that's cuz I'm half asleep and don't know how to word it properly... haha.

Hey what's my connection speed mean? What's the difference with that and my download/upload speeds?

Your connection speed is a combination of download and upload speeds. Basically you are allocated a certain bandwidth for your connection, this is broken into an upload portion and a download portion. Since most of the time you are requesting pages and getting information from other sources (i.e. watching movies, dl music, surfing the net) most ISPs allocate more for your download and less for your upload.

EDIT: I forgot to answer the original post. Short answer: you can't. The only way to truly increase your internet speed is to change your service plan. And sometimes even that doesn't work.
