psp modding.
« on: February 10, 2009, 01:29:42 PM »
ok, well im new and have been reading alot of the tut's on here. and i must say im interested.

i have so far bought:

2x 30ft of kynar wire 30awg red and blue

25 blue smd 0603 leds

crystal clear diamond blue psp replacement case.

screw driver etc. gle gun soldiering iron.

what i am in doubt about is a sound reactive mod. i herd you could run the cable direct to the speakers power? would this work or do i need transistors or resistors?

what on earth are transistors and resistors anway?

point is do i need them or can i run the wires straight to the speakers power source.

does anyone have a good tutorial of this? lordnic0's are good but in my opinion dont show eough for a first timer.

well thanks guys. :)

Hey there Welcome to Acidmods

We have a search function on this site, so please use it before you ask questions, because someone has more than likely asked the same thing before.

I will give you a tad bit of info: Wiring the leds directly to the speakers can be done without any transistors or resistors.

Transistors are essentially electronic switches, and resistors resist the flow of voltage and current.

If you want more info 'bout them try google.

But give the search a try   :victory:

Yeah transistors can work as electronic switches but also as amplifiers. If this is your first time soldering, 25 leds may or may not be enough. Depending on how skilled you are, you may destroy/lose a lot of leds. But if you're only planning on doing a trigger mod, 25 should be fine. Wiring up leds direct connect is really simple. Basically you wire up some leds in parallel, and then connect the + and - to the speakers/speaker pads. I have a poorly drawn diagram somewhere so if I find it I'll post it for you.

ok, but by soldering to the speakers power, will it not make the led burn out? as there is to much wattage, coz i really o not want to have to replace them once there in?

is that what resistors is for?

Erm... Find the psp disassembly tut in the tut section, then learn to solder (google or youtube) and figure out what wiring leds in parallel means (google) and then once you have two leds wired up in parallel, all you need to do is connect the positive to the positive on the speaker and negative to the negative on the speaker.

Pics for what? For the most part, you can google this stuff. I think somebody had a nice pic of how to wire another speaker up, but for all the basics, youtube, google, or search.
