Help and Advise For Next PSP Mod
« on: March 18, 2009, 07:56:56 PM »
ok well lets start with my psp. you can find pics here.

http://s423.photobucket.com/albums/pp312/i7vSa7vi7y/

Video here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ch_5a1fZYcE

ive recently done a LED swap on the powerboard and the WiFi but i couldnt do the memory indicator because there seems to be to many things around it and i couldnt take that one off with the soldering iron. I wanted to know how some of you guys did it. Should i just cut or scrape it off lol then add the new one?

Mod im planning on doing.
-Speaker Mod in UMD Door (want it like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqIwGh2bo6Q&feature=related )
-lm386
-LEDs in UMD Door
-LEDs in X,O[],/\ and ^,v,<,>
-LEDs all sound reactant

What size speaker should i get and from where? What LEDs would be best for each mod. I used 0603 but they are small and sometimes real hard to work with. I use kynar wire but some times its not the best thing. its pretty stiff and sometimes too big. Is there any other wire i can use? Any advise tutorials tips would be great. thank you guys.

I'm not sure about the size of the speaker but other people have a good opinion. I would continue using 0603 LEDs since they are so small. They are probably the only ones small enough anyway. You could use magnet wire. It is small and flexible enough to use for the x buttons.

heres the button tut for slims
https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=13494.0

can't put LEDs in the actual buttons on a phat since there hooked to the FP

as for speakers just about any little speaker will do just make sure its 8ohms and any where from .25-1 watts and it should work for you just make sure its a skinny speaker though

You can put lights in the phat buttons but it is difficult because they are connected. It's been done before though.

When you say that you wanted an lm386, did you mean to power the speakers or the LEDs?

For the speaker I've heard that one with a 50 mm diameter works great.

Yeah just solder it to the original speakers. Those may be a bit big though, depth wise. You need to try to find the slimmest speakers you can find. Also to install It you have to remove the umd drive. Otherwise the speaker will need to stick out the back for it to fit with the umd drive.

You can get the lm386 at radioshack for a few bucks. You may be able to find a better deal online though.

I'm not sure what your asking. Wire is wire. Kynar has a solid wire core and a coating around it. It is chosen for modding since it is small and flexible enough to be flexed to fit.
Guage and AWG are the same thing.

-dremel tool
-clear joystick (mine just broke yesterday)
-50mm speaker ( are these to big? as in the height? http://cgi.ebay.com/PAIR-OF-UNIVERSAL-MINIATURE-SPEAKERS-50mm-8-ohm-2w_W0QQitemZ130294128285QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_AudioVideoElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_HiFiSpeakers?hash=item130294128285&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177 )

That lm386 will work fine. I buy all my stuff from radioshack because they are the only place that sells this sort of stuff. They have relatively cheap prices too. When you bey the lm386, I suggest you buy an extra. If your wires accidentally break the pins off, your out of luck unless you have a spare.

For the speakers, 2w might blow the psp speakers. I was told these might work:

http://ca.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=sGAEpiMZZMuNFJjvCI6tQh8mjnT0e2E1Hf0EyM8a18I=

The shipping is like 8 bucks though so i recommend you buy some other stuff you might need. They carry all sorts of stuff - speakers, leds, lm386, wire, switches...

Sig by Kenshinffx - Thanks!

ok thank you. thats probably the one im going to buy unless i find one with less shipping. thank you.

i realy like this mod

Electronic Switch Mod

but i dont know where to get it. i already messages l0rdnic0. if i cant dop that im thinking a switch but i dont want it to be like hold or wifi i want a different switch.
i just go my lm386 yesterday from radio shaq. only things i need now is
speaker
superglue
dremel tool

if there is going to be 16 leds. how would i set all this up? including the 50mm speaker.

and i wanted to know how do you put the leds in the speaker holes. do you neeed to cut the lil part so it fits. because i tried it before and it was hard to get in there without breaking the led.

Heres where the leds will be.
all d pad and X,O,[],/\ = 8
triggers and speaker holes = 4
umd door around speaker = 4

total 16 leds.
i wanted to know what would be a good way of wiring everything.
and would i need any resistors? and if so what kind.
if you need to know what leds im using. there right here

http://unique-leds.com/index.php?target=products&product_id=1837

im new to modding and all this so i really appreciate your guys help.
