OK, so quite a few people have been doing this thing where they repaint cars, and I thought it would be good if there were a tutorial to help people out, and avoid unnecessary questions being asked.This tutorial can transform this:

What You NeedGIMP- a free program very similar to Photoshop. Get the latest version at http://www.gimp.org/downloads/If it helps, the .xcf file of what we're going to be doing in the tutorial (http://pspupgrade.webs.com/Repainting%20Car%20Guide/Rolls%20Royce%20Painted.xcf)I'm using the picture of a Rolls Royce car. Get it from http://pspupgrade.webs.com/Repainting%20Car%20Guide/Unpainted%20Rolls.jpgSo, let's get started.
1) Open up the picture of the car in GIMP:

Remember to use the rubber tool if you make a mistake somewhere; those tiny inaccurate places are what ruin an image.

You can also make a duplicate layer of the original, and put a black full transparency mask onto that, if you want. Then it's quite easy to pull out results like this:
