2n2222 SR mod question...

I have a question about the 2n2222 NPN SR mod method.

I notice that in the diagram there is no resistor between the power source and the transistor (except for the LED of course).  Wouldnt this burn out the LED?  If not, would be be possible to tap the power source from a 3.6 volt place, run through a switch, through two LEDs, and into the transistor?

technically its not 5v the way we are using it, its 5v between ground, I just stated it as that because then people know where to solder to. Use a multimeter across the rumble/leds on it and you will see it staying around 1.7v
