Yeah but another problem with Macs is that they don't accept the wide variety of hardware and software that Windows does. And if you go "VM or dualboot Windows FTW" then think: That kinda defeats the whole idea of getting a Mac, because you are STILL using Windows.
i do admit that it is based on needs but for 90% of computer users a mac would be fine if not better than windowsi am use my mac for 99% of all computer useage. here is a list of what i use on my mack and what i use it for.- iLife - sorting pictures fast movie & image editing as well as some very basic website stuff- itunes & quicktime & frontrow & perian plugin & vlc - music play and manage, movies rentals voice & webcam recording home theatre stuff- Full adobe CS4 suite - for everything oyu would use adobe cs4 suite on windows- iworks & mcsft office mac - all my word proccessing and spreadsheet stuff- coda and textmate - php, html, css editing creating etc etc- final cut studio - for video & sound editing, dvd authoring etc etc- MAMP Pro - for turning my mac into a fully working server apache, php, sql, cache&acceleration etc etc for site development- adium - twitter, msn, aol, google talk, ichat etc etc messenger client- mail - email client- adress book and ical - callender contacts etc etc- yummy ftp & cute ftp - both excellent ftp clients - spotify - music streaming- safari 4 & firefox - web brwosing- skype - international calls- sling player - using my sling box connected to my sat tv- quickpwn, pwnage tool - unlocking & jailbreaking itunes- timemachine - hourly incrimental backups- vmware fusion - virtualisation of windows and linux- wiretap studio - recording system audio and audio inputs- utorrent - torrenting- speed download - download manager and accelerator- unrarx, the unarchiver - extracting compressed files- snapz pro - screen casting- silverback - useability testing - records screen and uses web cam at same time to allow user testing and feedback of using sites and applications- mindjet mindmanager - creation mindmaps- a suite of kracker apps for use- flip4mac - playing wmv files- 1password - password management app- screensharing - share my screen and take control of others if they need help like remote desktop- connect360 - streaming media to xbox 360- team viewer - similar to screensharing but cross platform and cross the interwebs- twitterific - twitter client- tvcatchup player - playing live tv usingthe tvcatctup service- skitch - taking quick notes and fast editing of screen grabs- wbfs for mac 1.2 - used for manageing hard drives formatted with the wbfs filesystem for the nintendo wiiand there are lots of other apps that can replace windows apps and are often even better than the windows counterpart - the only thing i use windows for is access and publisher but mainly when i need to use access as microsoft screws mac users over.and there are lots of games for mac even recent ones just look herehttp://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/software/games?mco=NDY3NDkzMwhttp://www.macgamesandmore.com/http://www.macgames.com/http://www.insidemacgames.com/i could go on but i think i have proven my point that for 90% of people a mac would be equally as good if not better
well not exactly an apple computer. apple is using standard desktop hardware but is charging double the money. If they stopped being :censored:s and allowed everyone to install their os i'm sure they would have greater market penetration...
Apple computers don't use standard hardware...
[/Flame] umm this is a thread about viruses, Apple fanboys: take your Macs and go edit some video or something Im sorry guys, but 20yrs of being second place doesnt lie. I will take my viruses and like it, then to struggle with a mac, who's users btw ultimately end up running a window OS in some shape or form in order to keep their machines useful. [/Flame]haha Robin heres a link for games for PC users: www.gamestop.com Dont get me wrong, I hate windows and all it stands for but as an engineer, Macs are an impossibility, and I suspect that is the same for many industries. My name is 802Chives, and Im a PC.
I haven`t had to re-install my OEM install of Vista from two years ago, and I scan maybe once a month.Never had any issues with viruses.
Everyone should just get an Apple Computer .there is only like 3-4 viruses out there for them.
Uh, no. If they used standard computer hardware then there wouldn't be Mac-Specific ram/gpus/etc. and you'd be able to install OS X on any computer without running into problems.
I think that the king of spam should be immune to the punishment for posting spam everywhere, so post away Rory
couldnt of said it any better.
1. Get your mom Ubuntu and have her use that. Virus problem solved.2. Apple iMacs (the cheapest one) are a good bang for your buck. I challenge any one of you to build a computer with those specs within a day (looking at standard parts available on Newegg, or something) AND get a 20'' monitor and slick full-size keyboard for $100-200 less than what Apple asks for, and then you can say Apple is overpriced. Oh, and OS X 10.5+ > anything I've used. Here's a list of OS's I've used (extensively):Windows: 95,98,2000/NT,XP,Vista (Haven't used 7 a lot yet but it's basically Vista Lite from what I've seen)Linux/UNIX: Fedora 9,10, Ubuntu 8.10, 9.04, FreeBSD 5.4, Mac OS X 10.5, XandrosNow, I like a lot of those, but I spend most of my time in Leopard.
if you like leopard then you will love snow leopard its great and like half the size
