ya i believe the 0603 leds are the ones used under the keypad.....
lm386 gives u more sound reactive leds if u understand what i mean....

Ya got that mixed up there Dhurv. I'll explain: Direct contact stand for just that. You directly connect the LEDs to the speaker connections. The LM386 method uses a sound amp (an LM386) and a couple resistors. Each have their trade-offs: Direct contact are easier to do for a first mod, and they are much, much more reactive than the LM386 one. The downfall is that you need an additional switch to be able to turn it off. The sound amp method is much brighter, and you don't need an additional switch. The downfall here is the LEDs aren't very reactive.

so what really is the difference between the leds used in cellphones and the 603?

i really can't tell what's the forward voltage of the ones used in cellphones...

though it's way cheaper than the 603's

direct contact is the way to go buddy especially if you're just starting to learn...

enjoy your stay here at AM..

do you need to compute the proper resistors on lm386?.. can someone give me a specific example?..

No cuz the LM386 gives sound boost and without the sound the leds wont light as bright so you have to have the sound up to get the brightness from your leds.

how do you compute the resistors in lm386?.. i only know the direct led mod.. and are 380mcd a good one?.. or 80 is good?.. whats their difference?..

Higher mcd number means brighter LEDs
