Stuffed UMD Drive! Help!
« on: June 26, 2009, 09:36:36 PM »
I have taken apart my PSP 1000 with great care and put it back together but when I tested it it wouldn't read UMDs, the disc spins but the laser just moves in and out but doesn't move left or right. The PSP just shows the little loading icon at the bottom right forever. Then the disc stops after trying for about 6 seconds. I need help, the laser ribbon cable has some very small kinks in it but it doesn't look broken withing the cable. I'm thinking its the motor that moves left and right but I don't know.

Example:
Stuffed PSP 1000 UMD drive!

check the flex (ribbon) below the serial number, remove the flex and plug it properly, that flex will drive the 2 motors.

Check the flex (ribbon) for tear.

1st of all, your can't tear that type of ribbon cable unless you actually set out to do it.

But the most probable cause of this is that the one of the ribbon cables isn't plugged in correctly ,if the problem persists get back to us.

I know this is quite an old thread but I just got my broken PSP out again and I have tried what you have said and it still doesn't work. I think I may need a new drive installed by a professional.

If you need a working drive, I can sell you one. I sold several on ebay and I still have a few left.
