Some helping hands and tweezers will help you a lot, and some wire strippers would help too. You could always use scissors but wire strippers are a heck of a lot easier.

If you are new to modding, you can fit 3mm led's in just about any spot that you can do a 0603 smd, and save a lot of frustration

basic necessities:
rosin soldering flux, expensive but will last forever,
thinnest solder you can find, .032 has worked perfect for me
15 watt soldering Iron and sponge
tweezers if you use 0603 smd,
scotch tape for 0603 smd's- super resistant to heat,
hot glue gun
super glue- only use to cover solder on 0603 smd's for a stronger bond
basic small Phillips set
2n2222 transistors and 100ohm 1/4 watt resistors for psp slim
Drill, and various small bits

All of you failed to mention one of the most essential items in protecting your gear.

Invest in a static wristband.

It's really cheap.

You will probably need a drill and exacto knife.
If Abu dies without regenerating while participating in an attack or defense, all creatures Abu is blocking or being blocked by are also killed and may not regenerate.

Sure, alot of people do mods without static-wristbands, but if you want to do the job the correct way, then you'll invest in this 2 dollar lifetime insurance policy.

lol yeah I guess. But the PSP isn't a particularly expensive/fragile piece of equipment so I never bother. For PCs however it might be a good idea... Don't wanna go fry an expensive mobo...
