Question about backing up the hdd
« on: August 08, 2009, 01:11:43 PM »
Can I just connect it to my laptop through a regular sata>usb enclosure and use Xlorer360 to back everything up?
I've done it this way to modify gamesaves.
Couldn't I just copy everything over from the drive, plug in my new one, then replace/copy all of the files onto the new drive? It won't cause any problems right?

Are you trying to use the new HDD in your 360?

you can also use xport to make an image, then simply recover the image on your new drive.

Are you trying to use the new HDD in your 360?
...why else would I need to backup a current hdd onto a new 360 hdd?

Will all of this work if I'm going from 20gb to 120gb?
Or should I just copy everything and then copy it onto the new hdd one by one without preserving partitions?

I just copy and pasted this from a post I commented on in another thread.

"You cannot just copy the contents of your 360 HDD to any HDD. You need to flash the HDD with firmware that the 360 will recognize. I used a WD 1200bevs hdd. You can find them on ebay already flashed with the firmware needed to use with the xbox 360. Or you can buy one yourself and flash the firmware needed. Here is a couple links that will help you.

If you need more help ask me and I can try and help. I wrote down the steps I used to make my HDD compatible somewhere...."

NO do not use the image backup you are going from a 20gb to any size other than a 20gb. The image takes the hddss.bin with it and will make your 120gb read as a 20gb.

Your better off just taking the individual files.

i think all you need is the third partition. I'm not sure how you're going to get the files?
Are you using Xplorer360? How are you connecting your hdd to the comp?

40_ounce, omg stop posting. I'm using a god damn official drive. I NEVER SAID IT WAS A DIFFERENT TYPE OF DRIVE.
I said I was going from 20gb to 120gb.
And, I quote:

I planned on using Xplorer360 like I did to modify my saves. How good is xport?
I won't be doing this right away, but soon.

I'm just trying to help. You didn't say in your first post it was a xbox 360 120gb HDD.
You can download the software and connect your hdd to a sata port on your comp. Just do a google
search for xplorer360.
