Have the 12F683 work like the 555 w/o caps and switch
« on: September 13, 2009, 12:22:32 PM »
Hey i have run out of ne555 timers and i have some 12F683 so i wanted to know how to have Adjustable rapid fire with the 12F683. I thought this would be a fun task to figure out but i think i need some help getting there. it would be Through the right trigger only and without the capacitors and maybe without the transistor but thats no big deal. Also with the code having at one end of pot maybe at the lowest part having the mod in an OFF position. The 555 mods are getting boring and proggraming seems like a perfect way to make things easier. ive read through hazers open source and i dont fully understand but idk i still need help. How does the 12f683 work without programmed?

If anybody could shed some light on this that would be great.

You can't. You HAVE to program them.

hey mate as psp says the 12f683 does nuthing without being programmed  as its not a timer chip like the 555, its a actual micro controller ad can be used to control well pretty much anything if you can right a program for it.

here a like to a thread on this site that has a code for the pic12f683 in another link, its as close to a 555 kit as the pic 12f683 can get . well its better then the 555 as u set the speed not guess the speed by twisting a pot.

i have like 90 tacts so ya i could do that mod np i just need to get some 100ohm resitors but this is what i want to do with the 12F683 as i have done with the 555 here.

This is my own mod like the 555 but i have a legit potentiometer and no on/off button, its built into the pot. THIS is what i want to do with a pic. thanks for the link on a pretty similiar mod gurgle

Thats funny becuase most people use crappy pots when they do this mod...

Long hours in a room with the 555 timer will do that to you. Still i want to be able to do this with the 12F683..... need to learn code. can anybody give me a place to start. Ive looked over modded matts-how to change modes and hazers open source but its really confusing. maybe i need to read up. Is .asm the easiest type of code to write and im using MPLAB. i just need to get headed in the right direction.

Please do not post links to other forums, also, that site is notorious for stealing codes from other modders.

sorry bout that tremety, i did post the link ages ago as request from matt and som others in a earlier thread, i know these guys at that link are stealing codes and ideas and slating you guys here at acid's, this code was stolen from lugnut and prolisk, over at xbox scene but  it seems that this is the only place to get this code from. so just shareing the wealth with others you know.would be nice if you guys could check and host the code in the link as i dont trust spark fun n u never know if wot ur downloading from them is clean (virus free)
again sorry it wont happen again

we dont peddel other peoples codes without permission, get lugnut to send a pm stating we can post his code, and sure I will take a look but I am not downloading and hosting anything from spark

cool cool matt thats understandable  nut to get the finished code you may want to ask prolisk as he finalised it i believe

You can make a pic work like a 555 timer with some savvy coding using the Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) that is found on most pic models.  you can have 1028 discrete speeds if you use all 10 bits of the ADC.  Not a simple task but possible.

Where can i find this adc, where do i go to get started and your saying that 1028 speeds, different shots per second which i dont need but i want to hook a pot up to it which i want to have the mod turn off at one end of the pot. thanks chives

it takes some pretty good coding to do this correctly... if you are completely new to programming micro controllers i would look into a chip like Arduino or PicAxe.  Also you could look into Pic Basic programming language, although you may find this type of program tough in Basic(as well as the previous 2 for that matter).  Forums are the best place to learn imho.  If you want pic rapidfire make sure to check out the opensource code from hazer...not exactly what you want but would be a good pic project to get started on. Good luck

ok so with a picaxe i could accomplish what i want to do easier than the 12F683. And yes, i have not proggramed these chips before. could i still set the values of the pot and have an off position so the controller looks completely stock except for the pot :yess:

Post Merge: September 15, 2009, 04:46:06 PM
however i can do this without having the Caps up my ass like when building the 555 so i can do a free form, ohh and its cheaper and will last longer, be reproggramed, easily built, faster modding and thanks  chives

I cant say if a picaxe could do this for sure as I have never used one.  but from my understanding a picaxe is a pic, just it uses a bootloader that interprets code from a proprietary design environment and code, in other words it is still a pic and the capability is there but, it is up to whoever wrote the compiler and what they made available to the user.  It was designed with the hobby and school industries in mind so it is not going to be as precise as the native language for the pic however it may be sufficient.

You could make it so when the pot is all they way down, there is no signal being produced and therefore would be off, kinda like a buffer.

sorry, ive been very busy. +1 point for chives, my hero. LOL the pic axe has enormous posibilities although I think any pic could do what your asking, with alot of programing. the picaxe is just more user friendly. the pot is just a variable resistor, so the pic will need to read the changes in that resistance, the simplest way would be for it to read ranges. good luck

btw: the 555 can be free formed, depending on your skill with an iron.

not a problem, i can help you in a general sense.  However when it comes right down to it I am similar to Matt and Hazer in that if I held everyones hand on all the mods that comes through here, I wouldnt have time to breath.

It seems like you may be a lot better off then most since you do have some background in programming, most people are just looking for a step by step tutorial and that is not the kind of help any of us are here to give.  If you have more questions feel free to ask, and I know matt and myself would be more then happy to give you a direction to follow(i am sure hazer would too when he is around), but when it comes down to it you are going to have to do most of the heavy lifting.... wouldnt be much fun any other way :winker:

Buy a 555 timer chip, and a sliding potentiometer and replicate it :-)
