i need a new drive for my xbox elite and its a lite on drive i put two different hitachi drives and the games show up as dvds that cant be read do i have to get a lite on drive for it to work or does it have something so do with the drive key?

You have to backup the drive key then flash it to a new lite on drive. PM Treemty or wait for him to respond, he knows all about this stuff.

well, first off, what is wrong with your DVD drive? And second, you cant just use a random DVD drive in your xbox, it has to have the matching drive keys, to use those hitachis, you would have to flash the firmware then spoof the drive so it thinks its a lite-on, but in personal preference I would NEVER replace a lite-on with a hitachi, seeing as Hitachis are VERY loud.
Please tell me what went wrong with the original DVD drive and I will help you from there.

the drive dosent want to open or close its like its motherboard got fried ...this is what happened i had my xbox disassembled and i put a new game in i was saving it to the harddrive the out of no where the xbox just restarted and the drive didnt work any more
After that  i tried to see if maybe it made contact with something it shouldnt have and i found out that if the metal case from the drive touchs the heat sink or the metal caseing around the memory card slot the xbox restarts only if i tap the metal together for a quick second if they stay in contact it turns off and dosent restart untill they stop touching

sorry if theres any misspelled words im useing my ipod touch but yeah i think that when it was saveing the game to the hdd it probably vibrated out of place and touch one or the other

my friend got the rrod error code 0110 says somethings wrong with the ram should he use a heat gun on it or what should i tell him to do to fix it?

Reflow the RAM is my suggestion.

try restarting the xbox without the hard drive.

If that mobo inside it is fried have no choice but to flash it though its a risk.

Well if your 99% percent sure then yea. But if is not you can just swap the mobo with another of the same brand.

im not sure at all i just consider it because it made contact with the heat sink and restarted the xbox so i figured it must have gotten fried but ill try and flash it anyway but dont i need a spear chip or watever those things are called cause this is a lite on drive

i tried opening the drive again and it worked once it opened then closed then the xbox restarted and it stopped working again

are you getting the open tray error, if so clean the laser and try to play without putting it back together.
put the drive togather not the box.

no im not getting any drive error it just says opening when i turn it on then closing when i try to open it but nothing happenes i hit the button to open it and it'll go back and fourth opening and closing(but it stays closed) ... i tried puting the drive back together and not the xbox and i turned it on ... it said opening so i pulled the power cable from the drive and put it back in and it restarted the xbox and it was back to normal it said open tray like normal i hit A and it says opening but it never opens ...  this xbox is pissing me off can somebody just help me flash it without useing a spear i'd rather just get my key buy a new drive and finish this
