I've always used 30 watt.. I don't understand how people can burn SMT components with it, but It does the job for me

mine has a switch from 15-30 but the xbox mobo is a pain anyway, add flux and solder then try to desolder what your working on.

the new solder helps heat the stuff MS uses

I find the best to use is a 35 watt iron. Make sure you use plenty of flux too. Soldering to the 360 mobo is a pain because of the lead free solder.

Not trying to remove anything right now but last time I did a 12v fan mod the solder on the underside of the power plug just did not want to melt, eventually I got some solder on it but it looked like :censored:.  I did get a 25 watt iron recently from a friend that never used it so next time I'll give that one a shot

I have bought 2 of these (one for me, one for a friend):

http://www.circuitspecialists.com/soldering-stations-csi-station1a.html

It works just as well as the Hakko I had at work. I have used mine for 4 years without problems, and I still cant believe the price. Its almost the same price as a generic 30 watt from RadioShack.

I have a 20+ year old 50w weller soldering station that belonged to my dad. I will hopefully get a smd rework station sometime this year.

I have the same one as fookz, I love it. I also use a cheapo desoldering pump from radioshack.

Ps: got it second hand though, saw it in the shops for about 210$
