Ayyy
« on: March 22, 2013, 04:10:35 PM »
Well, Im just get used to this forum, after being member a few days I just found the into section haha.
Quick overview of me;
I am currently a high school student, and got my Xbox for the most recent Christmas.  I got the 250gb slim from Amazon, used, and the controllers were :censored:ty.  After a few months of suffering with my controller that permanently looked down, I got a new wireless controller.  Now Ive started to look into mods for them, going for a rapid fire mod this spring break.  Ill be cutting a window, in the shape of flames, into my console and putting red LEDs behind it.  Then Im replacing the buttons in my controller with red ones, and backlighting them as well as the triggers.  Luckily enough, my dad has spent a few years as an electrician, and has an entire shop in the garage, with a plethora of tools for electronics work, as well as woodworking as well.  So I have access to soldering equipment, dremels, drills, and so on.  I personally have loved electrics for a long while.  I spend wayyy to much time on my computer, and know quite a fair amount, and a few 1337 hacking things, not many though.  Whenever anything breaks in my house, it passes through my room where I take it apart before the useless pieces get to the trash.  I have a bin of capacitors, transistors, switches, resistors, and LEDs thats about 5 cubic feet.  So modding seems like just my type of :censored:, I love those type of things.
IRL I am not just a nerd... I am part of the local rowing club (yes, the long skinny boats full of big guys you see in the Olympics).  Next year I am transferring to a school that will allow me to take tech classes, as well as allow more time for rowing, aka crew.  I am hoping to get into college partially based off of my skill as a rower, as well as my intelligence.  In 7th grade, I took the real SAT as part of the Duke TIP program, and scored a 2050.  Since then, I have made lots of mistakes in terms of life choices, but Im just now correcting them.
I have the most beautiful girlfriend in the world :3 and love her more than anything.  Crew and here are the only things that can tear me away from the blue flickering screen xD
Anyway, Im glad to have found and now join this forum! I hope I can learn lots while here, and maby off a bit of help myself.

Oh, I love the :censored: thinggys xD

Nice one there mate :) oh and yes you are a showoff Rodent xD love it though
The one I found that really made me want to do flames was this one, Ill have to dig around for a nice template though

what didja use to cut it out? Ive got a dremel, not sure exactly what sort of attachment works best though.  Use one of the etchers to outline the pattern, then a circular cutter to finish it off and cut all the way through?

Oh, i do have a question btw... what power soldering iron do yall suggest? I have an old 40w one, is that a bit overpowered for circut work? I mean, a 25w one can be bought for like 10 bucks at radioshack :P
and for soldering on xbox, rosin core solder is best, right?

sorry for lots of questions off the bat, but ya did say I could just ask ;)

I pretty much use a 15 watt iron for everything, Unless i am desoldering parts off a board then i use a 25 watt or 40watt iron,  I don't use a dremel for cut outs ,  some say its a skill saw or scroll saw. jigsaw is what i used for cutting out mine.  took me about 45 minutes to a 1 hour with all the detail i had in mine,  Really sucks that console isnt around any more some kid destroyed it i got it back and sold the case after i fixed it.   My plan is to  make another one yet ever better ,   Nice pic need to change the leds to blue or make the flame blue and white that is what my next project was going to be :)
